Dr Frederick Clarke
BSc (Hons Biochem) MBBS FRACS (Plastic Surgery)
Dr Fred Clarke is a fully qualified Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr Fred Clarke studied at the University of Sydney, graduating from a Bachelor of Science with Honours and completing his Medical training in 2000 before working at multiple hospitals across the state as a surgeon. His commitment to serving his community led him to volunteer to work at various rural hospitals and as a result he has developed a very broad surgical experience. His decision to become a plastic surgeon was prompted by his desire to be the very best surgeon he could be, to offer his patients the most highly skilled and quality care that is available.
After completing his Plastic Surgery training Dr Clarke worked as a Plastics consultant at both Royal North Shore and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals before embarking on an extensive international fellowship. He spent six months in Belgium working with world renowned reconstructive surgeon Professor Moustapha Hamdi – a pioneer of new techniques in microsurgical reconstruction (breast reconstruction, head & neck reconstruction, and lower limb reconstruction); where he furthered his skills developing expertise in Perforator Flap Reconstruction, now used extensively in international centres; such as Deep Inferior Epigastric Perferator tissue transfer (DIEPs), Transverse Upper Gracilis flaps (TUGS), Profunda Artery Perforator flaps (PAPs) and Thoracodorsal Artery Perforator flaps (TAPs) and Lateral Intercostal Artery Perforator flaps (LICAPs). In addition he developed new surgical techniques in a variety of areas including Surgical Lymphadoema reduction post breast cancer treatment and cutting edge Oncoplastics. The Belgium Plastic Surgical Unit at UZ Brussels is a leader in the newly developed area of vascularised lymph node transfers for Lymphoedema reduction and as part of his fellowship he participated in the exciting and ground breaking research in new plastic surgical techniques in this area.
Dr Clarke then travelled across Europe and the United States of America visiting world experts in their fields; gaining detailed and personal expertise in the areas of Breast Reconstruction and Augmentation (including working with the world renowned pioneer of DIEPs and PAPs, Dr Bob Allen), Body Contouring (liposculpture) and Nasal Reconstruction, Facelifts, Oculoplastics (eye surgery) and Abdominoplasty (tummy tucks).
Since returning to Sydney Dr Clarke has been appointed at the prestigious St Vincent’s Hospital, where his main focus is on Breast Reconstruction and Head & Neck Reconstruction, as well as inpatient trauma and Oncological Plastics. He has consultation rooms at Mosman and also works at a number of private hospitals across Sydney where he offers private Plastics with a special interest in the full range of Microsurgical Reconstruction and Oculoplastics and the full complement of Cosmetic Surgeries. He is a highly skilled, warm and committed surgeon who makes you, and your care his focus.
